Can I spray in the winter time without a large loss of yield? The best method to minimize yield loss while spraying in cold temperatures is the use a flash coat. A flash coat is a very thin coat that will warm up the surface and allow you a second pass on a warm surface.
Should I mask or staple the plastic on the windows and other finished surfaces? There are two different kinds of people in this business: the type that have over sprayed a window and the type that will over spray a window. The best advice is to do both! You can never be too safe.
If it is really cold outside how can I get started quicker without a recirculation system?Just get two buckets, remove the gun from the block and run the machine with the primary heaters set at the desired temperature. Bleed off material until the hose heat sensor shows the appropriate temperature and you are ready to go!
How can I get my gun clean? If it has been a while you can place it in a crock pot for 8 hours in coolant. Make sure you use the green stuff.
Many people will place the gun in a plastic bag with a rag soaked in a solvent. By morning you can just wipe the gun clean.
Can I spray directly on the roof deck?Yes, per IBC 2006 you no longer have to use baffles, you can apply foam directly to the roof deck.
Can I spray foam further distances?Yes. There are a variety of extension tip kits and jet stream kits available that will allow you to spray a 10” pattern up to 15 feet away.
Do I need to flush my system when switching from ½# to 2# or vise versa? No, it is not necessary to flush your equipment when switching from open cell foam to closed cell foam or vice versa. Simply switch your supply pumps to the new drums and adjust your equipment settings for the new foam. You can recirculate the resin side back into the old drum or spray the foam until your lines are filled with the new material.
How often should I disassemble my gun to clean it?We recommend that you disassemble your gun for cleaning when it will not spray for 24 hours and at least every three days if you are spraying with it daily.
What should I do to my equipment if I am going to store it for several months? You should flush your lines with DOP (Dioctyl Pthalate) and leave the DOP in the equipment while it is in storage.
What temperature should my material be as it enters the proportioner? The temperature of the material as it is pumped into your proportioner should be 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit.
What would cause a pressure loss on the B-side of my proportioner? The two most common problems for a loss of pressure on the B-side of the proportioner are supply problems to the B-side proportioning pump or a restriction in the A-side after the proportioning pump (usually a restriction in the gun).
